A Second Direct UK Route Changes the Conversation
For most of the past decade, flying from the UK to Phuket meant routing through the Gulf or Southeast Asia: Dubai, Doha, Kuala Lumpur. That added hours and friction to a journey wasn’t just a travel annoyance. For potential property buyers, it was a barrier and also a decision stopper. A second home feels like a different kind of commitment when getting there requires a full day of airports.
This winter, that changes again. Norse Atlantic Airways launches direct nonstop service between London Gatwick and Phuket from December 2026. Operating three times per week on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner as part of the airline’s broader expansion of Thailand routes for the winter 2026–27 season.
British travellers who previously ruled out Phuket as too complicated to get to now have options: morning departures, evening options, midweek and weekend frequencies across two separate airports, along with Virgin Atlantic’s announcement of London Heathrow direct to Phuket starting from October 2026.
Why Two Routes Matter More Than One
Norse Atlantic’s chief executive has pointed to Thailand as one of the airline’s strongest-performing destinations, with the expanded winter schedule a direct reflection of where they see passenger demand heading. When airlines compete for a route, it tells you something about the underlying demand that already exists and about the confidence both carriers have in where that demand is going.
What It Means for Rental Demand
For property investors, the significance extends beyond personal travel convenience. Every new direct route from a key source market represents a potential increase in the pool of visitors looking for somewhere to stay.
More direct access from Gatwick means more UK visitors arriving in Phuket through the winter season, which is already the island’s strongest period for rental occupancy. For owners, that seasonal demand supports the rental performance that makes the investment case compelling in the first place.
The Zero Bang Tao hands over in Q1 2027, just as the Norse Atlantic service is moving through its first full winter season and building a regular passenger base. Silhouette in Nai Yang, just five minutes from the airport these flights land into, follows in Q2 2028. The timing, for buyers making decisions now, is worth factoring into the picture.

Phuket’s Connectivity Is Being Built for the Long Term
The Norse Atlantic announcement sits within a broader pattern of infrastructure investment that is reshaping how the world accesses Phuket. The airport’s Phase 2 expansion will take capacity from its current operational levels to 18 million passengers annually. A new Andaman Airport in Phang Nga, just off of Phuket island, is in longer-term planning. Road and transit projects are moving forward across the island’s north-west corridor. Properties that are already in place when those improvements land tend to capture the appreciation that comes with improved connectivity rather than paying a premium for it after the fact.
Phuket is not at the beginning of that story. But it is at an interesting point in it and the Norse Atlantic announcement is one more marker of the direction things are heading.
For investors looking to capitalise on this growth, the Phuket real estate market offers exceptional opportunities perfectly positioned as high-caliber Phuket property for sale to foreigners. Leading this wave of island living is The Zero Bang Tao, the flagship project from The Zero Phuket redefining the luxury condo Phuket experience, making it the most coveted property for sale Bang Tao has to offer. Meanwhile, Silhouette by The Zero Phuket captures a compelling coastal energy, delivering a breathtaking seaview condo in Nai Yang where tranquil, low-density living meets the ultimate convenience of being just minutes from the expanding international airport.
